Dead update. I mean, Shred update.

Posted by beth on April 4, 2009

Listen, I’m about to embark on day 4 of shredding and I have good news.  I’m not as sore as I was yesterday morning!  I actually feel quite good!  Which is good because yesterday morning I stood at the top of my stairs and considered rolling down the stairs, I thought that it probably wouldn’t hurt near as bad as actually walking down them.

The bad news, for some of you, is that typically I would never have worked out being as sore as I was (am), because this is BY FAR the sorest I have ever been.  However, with this program, in order to follow it correctly and have it work the way it’s intended, you have to workout every single day, even if you can’t climb your stairs and putting your bra on makes you groan like a cow in labor.

So, no excuses.  (don’t you hate that?)

But I have good news, AGAIN!   Once you get into the workout, you actually lose the soreness while working out, it’s like a tiny miracle in the midst of severe pain and torture.

Don’t worry, an hour later it returns, but at least you have relief during the time that matters most.

I know I’m probably scaring the entire population of people we are committing on Monday to start this challenge and I can assure you, IT IS MY INTENTION TO SCARE YOU.

But it’s also my intention to tell you that it’s okay.  You are this sore because this is how your body should be worked and you haven’t so now it’s time to train your body to do what it needs to be doing.

Losing weight and getting healthy is NEVER, EVER EASY.  If anyone ever tells you it is, they are either lying or they want you want you to buy some product that doesn’t work.  It’s time to stop looking for the easy way out and face your current situation head on.

The workout is so hard, it really is, but anything worth doing is worth doing right and I can tell you already, this is worth doing.

DO NOT GIVE UP.

  • I have never done this workout for more than one day. I am too sore after Day 1!

But if you say the soreness goes away after awhile, I believe you. And I plan to join the insanity starting tomorrow.

This whole soreness disappears stuff had better not be a joke!

I have several ON DEMAND stations on my cable. Can someone tell me which one to find this on? Thanks.
  • Yes, you are scaring me, but not changing my mind. I can do this. I have to do this and when you see me crawl out to the car to get Racecar for school, you'll know I did it!
  • OMG! I laughed so hard at your post! I know the feeling. I've only done 2 days now, and everytime I need something from upstairs, I weight the pros and cons first to decide if I can live without it! Day 2 did seem easier. I didn't hit pause once! But everything hurts - my butt, my stomach, my shoulders! I'm excited, though. My stomach already looks flatter somehow. So, it's gotta be worth it in the end, right?
  • I feel your pain! I was doing the Shred every other day back in January and it was still killing me! Luckily, I just checked OnDemand and Phases 1 & 2 are on there so I'm at least set for the first 20 days! Let's do this!!
  • Ha! I am right there with you. I am about to do day 2. It is snowing outside, and there is nothing I want to do more than cuddle up with my 3 yo, and watch a movie. But I am determined to Shred this weight..... wish me luck....

  • Yikes - you are scaring me! I am on my way to do my day 2 and I am sore but I not quite yet to OMG I can't move which is I am sure will come soon...
  • Amen!!
  • I know I've said it before, but I'ma say it again...I can't wait!!! I admit I got a tiny bit scared for a bit, but now I'm ready!!
  • i will start monday.
the first time i tried it, was 6 weeks post pardem, i couldn't even do a proper jumping jack. LOL. It did get better but I quit after a week. just lazy i guess.. Now I really am committed to losing weight.
  • Beth,
I feel your pain! I started Pilates two months ago, but need to step it up a notch. Once a week is definitely not enough. Nicer weather is around the corner and I intend on taking full advantage of it, walking and enjoying the fresh air after being cooped up all winter. I love your blog I am a new blogger who found you thru twitter. Isn’t the modern computer age amazing! Have a wonderful Saturday. Cathy
  • Girl. Don't I KNOW IT?! The first two days I really wanted to die. I kept moaning to my husband and children, "my body HHUUUUURRRRSSSS." But it does get better! And then it starts to feel good! I even worked out this morning even though I am pretty sure I have some kind of cold/killer allergies. Working out helped clear out my sinuses - for a few minutes, anyway.

All of that is to say - totally agree. So hard. So worth it. I'm scared to death to move on to Level 2 next week, but I am also excited at the same time.
  • I was a little worried about moving to Level 2 myself. It is a tad harder and the plank jacks are very HARD. But I wasn't as sore as when I started Level 1. Good Luck.
  • you are doing an awesome job! Keep up the good work! You big loser! :-)
  • Oh dear.
